MAIN FIELD
Saturday March 25th, 2000 would go down in history as being the first time Monster Jam and its best would make the trek to Sam Boyd stadium for the largest monster truck show of the year. Sixteen of the best monster truck drivers and identities in the world would earn their berths for the infant show, all in the hopes of walking away with the most prestigious accolade in the sport: a World Championship. Despite the gravity of this occurrence, there was a lot of uncertainty to be found amongst those who found themselves a part of the big show. A lot of questions about how well this event would work out, how many fans would be interested enough to make the voyage to Las Vegas for the show, and how long could this annual showcase reasonably go on? While the final of these questions has yet to be concretely answered, the first two have certainly gotten their responses over the 20+ year history of this event. Saturday March 25th, 2000 would be the first of many sold-out World Finals, with action that not only matched but elevated the biggest highlights from each year, and ultimately pushed the sport to new heights over the course of a single weekend. Indeed, unprecedented to all those in attendance, Monster Jam World Finals I would be the starting point to this unrivaled motorsports legacy. With all of that said, what better way to summarize this event than to just say the names of the two Champions: Tom Meents and Dennis Anderson. For two of the greatest drivers of all time, who in all respects helped carry Monster Jam to where it is today, to win the first outing of the World Finals is nothing short of poetic.
